An exciting and surprising pairing of a Surf Hat collab for 2024
We first got introductions to Soleil Errico when she started following us on Instagram.
It’s always cool when you get someone with a Blue Tick in your notifications tab, like wtf HOW DID YOU FIND ME?!
Little old me who’s still getting the hang of promoting her surf hat business, and honestly making it up as we go… it’s so interesting to me how people come across Plow.
Kinda slay, she was influenced by Leighton Meester wearing her Plow in Malibu (love this for me)
Obviously I came in hot with a DM exclaiming how freaking cool it is that the Womens WSL World Champion Longboarder has simply given my brand a follow. This shit doesn’t happen everyday, and I’m so bloody glad that we connected.
I sent Soleil some hats to trial out, and the rest is history (that I’m about to over explain to you cause why the f not give some background to a Collab that we’ve put so much work behind).
Unsurprisingly given Soleil is a tall athletic Queen, the mediums we first sent didn’t fit her noggin lol, luckily I chucked in a Large OG just in case. Solid Noggin surf hats prescribed for her from here forward. I sent her favourite colour over in the right size and would spot her just wearing it in her day to day life for months after, she was also kind enough to post and tag piccies and vids wearing it too.
Side note but relevant: Honestly a good old tag just goes so appreciated by a small business, it helps us get out there AND we genuinely love to see the adventures our products go on. Living vicariously through you all gives me life!
Our favourite place to see Soleil wearing her hat is when she surf coaches with Therasurf, giving children with disabilities the chance to share her biggest love. That’s the Beauty of a plow hat; 1) You can spot them from a mile off, 2) you can wear them for any adventure.
The more you get to know about Soleil, the better. Apart from winning the WSL at the age of 17 and again at 21 & 22, there is so much about her personality that we’re continuing to learn that just makes me love her. Surfing is a passion of hers, as it is with most surfers you meet, you can tell this chic just thrives out in the ocean. But there is something so free within her, that is somehow freer than your stereotypical surfer. Putting into words is hard, but I just think this bitch has inner peace and it’s not something she gets from the ocean, it’s in her. Shamelessly herself, not afraid of judgement, and it doesn’t feel like she’s got anything to prove. Maybe that comes from genuinely being the best at what she does, but I don’t think so. I don’t get competitive or cocky. She’s got a loose screw in that sense, you’ve gotta be a bit tapped to genuinely be IDGAF vibes in this day and age, especially at her age!!
This is a compliment of course, tapped people are my favourite kind!
Kind of emosh getting that out of the head onto paper, I find that more inspiring than being as elite of a sportsperson as she is. I’m inspired by this chics attitude to life, and that is a byproduct of this Collab that I wasn’t expecting.
When we first started this Collab, it was all about me being in awe of someone so elite genuinely loving my product. It was so affirming to hear an elite sportsperson praise all of the details about the surf hats that I know to be true, and that people so often give excuses as to why they don’t want to be wearing a surf hat.
After months of back and forth dm’ing just general chit chat and me frothing over her wearing her plow hat in her everyday life, I bit the bullet and asked her to become an Ambassador for Plow. Mind you… I have no idea how ambassadors work but I knew she’d be a good one!!
Her immediate response was a big YES, and that she’d love to create a custom Soleil x Plow too!
Another immediate YES from me!!
Never once has this felt like a business transaction, we have had so much fun getting to know each other, sharing our creative sides and bringing this thing to life.
Seeing as we live on opposite sides of the globe Malibu CA and Cronulla have shocking time zone differences, Soleils bestie Steph is a graphic designer luckily so we prescribed a sit down sesh with the two of them to brain storm and work on her ultimate Surf Hat design.
Soleil has a Plow Surf Cap, but she prefers to wear the Bucket hat. She likes the way it provides shade the whole way around her face, she always wears thick zinc in the ocean, so for her the priority is shading her eyes at all times. A secondary effect of wearing a surf hat is that you tend to wipe your eyes less and rub off less of your zinc.
To Soleil and I, there are no cons to wearing a surf hat.
It protects your eyes, it protects your face, it stays on in the surf EVEN in big waves!
Sure, it takes a little adjustment to get used to wearing, but if the world champ is telling me it doesn’t get in her peripheral vision then I know all the rest of you are just tradesmen blaming their tools. Grow up aye.
